After eleven albums over the course of 19 years, Centro-matic have quietly called it quits. This comes somewhat surprisingly – only four months after the release of the excellent Take Pride In Your Long Odds. Judging by front man Will Johnson’s statement, this will be one of the most amicable band breakups that you’ll ever see, and there’s not much doubt that Johnson will remain one of the most prolific (and talented) musicians around. Centro-matic will be doing a short December tour of “farewell” gigs, which luckily (for me at least) includes a Philly date.
